How to get your Volvo SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) into Neutral when it will not start.
Today we’re working with a 2019 Volvo XC60, but the solution is the same on all Volvo SPA models including the XC60, XC90, S60, V60, and V90. Even most tow truck drivers do not know this back-door access is available. The goal here is to help everybody out in case of an emergency and so you can get your otherwise beautiful Volvo down here for a service. Otherwise, the wheels are locked, the car can’t move – a troubling scenario if you’re broken-down on the highway.
All you are going to need is a small screwdriver or anything that will fit in the hole shown in the video. There will be a white button inside the hole, push it down and shift to neutral – that’s it!
Hope this was helpful.
Note: For Volvo, with the SPA program, Volvo mentions that it “enables significant improvements when it comes to offering protection in worst-case scenarios and when creating innovative features that support the driver in avoiding accidents”. We think so too, but they didn’t put this one in the manual!
